Bachelor of Arts (BA) Urdu is an undergraduate degree program in which students learn about Urdu language, literature, poetry, linguistics and culture. It takes three years to complete the program, which is offered in two semesters each year. They are also allowed to make an understanding of the development of Urdu language, grammar systems, literature, poetry, authors and poets. These students get to be acquainted with reading, writing, speaking, and even comprehending the Urdu language. The courses in the Urdu literature consist of poetry, prose works, criticism, plays and some specialization courses in linguistics, rhetoric and dramatics. The universities also provide optional subjects like Hindi, Arabic, Persian etc Some of the universities also make it compulsory for the students to write dissertations and research papers in which they are expected to use their analytical and interpretational skills only.
The entrance exams allowed for admission in BA Urdu course are intermediate or 10+2 with Urdu as a subject, university conducted test to consider the language ability, competence and general knowledge. A large number of universities admit students on merit basis in the qualifying examination. There are some colleges which sets separate Urdu ability tests including written examination and viva voce. A candidate is eligible for admission if he/she has passed the higher secondary level examination in any stream with Urdu as a subject. Students from humanities as well as science stream can take admission in BA Urdu programs depending on language norms set by the university.

1. The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination or any equivalent examination from any recognized board with Urdu subject.
2. Minimum 45-50% marks in 10+2 for general category students. Relaxation in case of reserved category candidates as per rules.
3. Students from other streams can also apply for admission but they should have also studied Urdu up to matric or 10th level.
4. There is no upper limit of age for admission in the college. B. Freshers after 10+2 and students with gap years are also welcome.
5. The admission is done on the merit list prepared on the basis of marks secured in the 10+2 examination. Entrance test; In cases where there are many students, and the number of available spaces in a class is limited, the students will be required to undertake an entrance test to determine who will be admitted to the class.
6. Migration certificate needed for the students who have passed 10+2 examination from any other board. A character certificate and other documents also required.
