Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is an undergraduate course of 5 and half years in the field of Ayurveda. The course offers understanding of the principles of Ayurveda and the opportunity to learn the methods of diagnosis, treatment, and production of Ayurveda medicines. It also provides the option of a one-year internship as part of the program as well.
Students are trained in subjects such as anatomy, human physiology and biochemistry, Ayurveda fundamentals, Dravyaguna Vigyan, methods of identifying diseases, Rasa Shastra that involves use of metals and minerals in treatment, Ayurvedic pharmacology, preventive social medicine, anaesthesia, surgery etc. On successful completion of the degree, the students can work as Registered Ayurvedic Physicians in health care centers, government authorized dispensaries, Ayurvedic pharmacies, and manufacturing Ayurvedic companies, medicinal plant cultivation organizations. The entrance examinations accepted for BAMS admissions include NEET, Allahabad University Entrance Test, Ayush Entrance Exam, and Kerala Entrance Exam. Seats are also allotted through centralized counselling conducted by AACCC (Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee).

1. The candidate must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination with the main subjects being Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
2. The minimum cumulative percentage of marks needed is 50% for all the categories of candidates other than SC/ST candidates who require 40% of marks.
3. One of the requirements of the candidate is that he or she must have reached 17 years of age by the 31st of December in the year of admission.
4. As far as eligibility criteria are concerned, there is no restriction regarding the upper age for getting admission in BAMS course.
5. As for the requirements, candidates should be healthy to do this course.
6. While some of the colleges have their own entrance examination, many accept the scores of the national level examinations for admission.
