Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Furniture designing is an undergraduate degree programme offered to the students in the field of Furniture Design. Some of the areas, which the 4-year full-time program, entails include designing of furniture, materials and processes of manufacturing among other procedures that involve ergonomics and aesthetics into the general designs. While pursuing this program, students are trained in the process of developing different types of furniture for use in homes, offices, and other facilities with attention to utility, aesthetics, and cost.
Some of the subjects taught in the course are Elements of design, Furniture Materials and Technology, Furniture Design and Drawing, History of Furniture, Furniture Production Control, Industrial Practice. The eligibility is 10+2 or equivalent with 50% aggregate marks for admission to the 1st year of the B.Sc. programme. Aptitude tests for admission in B.Des (Furniture Design) in leading design colleges are NID DAT, UCEED, NIFT, CEED, SIT DAT of Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology, MITID DAT of MIT Institute of Design and Pearl Academy entrance test.
