Bachelor in Design in Soft Material Design is an undergraduate programme that takes a four-year duration to complete focusing on the designing and making of soft materials and products including textiles, apparels, footwear, bags, home textiles and furnishings. The students study about the types of fabrics used in different products, sustainability measures, technology used in manufacturing soft goods, and the basics of colours, forms, sketches, and CADD. The subjects taught in the course are fabric science, draping skills, apparel fabrication, merchandise production, and supply chain courses alongside other courses in cultural and historical studies, and general management.
The entrance examinations which are considered valid for purpose of admission to B.Des Soft Material Design course are NIFT, NID, UCEED, CEED conducted by IIT Bombay, Pearson UG Design Aptitude Test by PEARSON VUE and other design aptitude test conducted by individual colleges/institutes offering this program. The procedure for the shortlisting of candidates usually comprises an aptitude test, creative ability test in the studio and an interview.
