The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Applied Arts is an academic program offered at the undergraduate level that deals with the area of visual arts. The BFA Applied Arts course generally takes 4 years of complete study, that is, eight semesters. In this program, the students learn different skills in different fields such as painting, sculpture, graphics, animation, and photography, etc. The content knowledge includes both theoretical as well as practical aspects that aim at creating a combination of innovativeness and professionalism. Another aspect of forming the well-rounded artist is also the exposure to liberal arts. At the end of this extensive program, the students create a portfolio that highlights their abilities.  

For getting admission to the BFA Applied Arts program, students have to go through entrance examination like NEST conducted by the National Institute of Design (NID). Other institutes offering this program admit students based on a practical skill assessment or aptitude tests designed to determine interests and artistic ability. During the interviews, portfolio presentations are also used as part of the selection process. Entry requirements include meeting the minimum eligibility for admission and passing relevant design, drawing or visual art tests.

1. Must have passed 10+2 from any stream, Science/Commerce/Arts with at least 50% marks from recognized board.  

2. Very keen and passionate in arts such as painting, sculpture, graphics, animating, designing, etc a portfolio of their art work may be needed.

3. Originality, ideas, perceiving ability, carefulness.

4. Hand-eye coordination, color vision, visual feeling, fine motor skills of hands and fingers.  

5. Satisfying any entrance test, if demanded by the particular college/institute.

6. Preparing to an interview to discuss the portfolio of the works of art and to show one’s concern and ability. Client consultation to match up interests with the specialty provided.
