Nutrition and dietetics is an undergraduate program that takes 3 years and it deals with the science behind nutrition and planning of diets. The curriculum offers an in-depth understanding of human nutrition, the nature of food, nutrients, human physiology, metabolism, and community nutrition activities. They develop competencies and skills in nutritional assessment, communication skills in counselling, diet prescriptions for therapeutic diets, knowledge and application of hygiene standards and research in nutrition. Essential courses include Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition across the life span, Nutrition in the prevention and treatment of diseases, Hygiene and nutrition, and Food science.
Qualifying entrance examination accepted for admission include NEET UG, AIIMS MBBS, JIPMER MBBS, State and Institutional Quota Examinations. The criterion of eligibility may differ from one college to another; however, the basic requirements include the students passing the 10+2 Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects; and scoring not less than 50% of the total marks in aggregate.
