Diploma in Animal Husbandry is a diploma level course that covers information and practical knowledge about livestock farming, feeds and feeding, reproduction, veterinary science, dairy technology, poultry farming etc. The course trains students to become para-veterinarians and livestock supervisors and farmers who can effectively manage cattle, poultry, sheep, goats, pigs etc. The duration of the Diploma in Animal Husbandry course is 2 years divided into 4 semesters which focus on classroom sessions and practical training. There are also institutes who have 3-year program and actually added one year of clinical exposure in livestock farms and veterinary hospitals.
The minimum qualification required in order to join the Diploma in Animal Husbandry course is 10+2 in science stream or its equivalent. Most of the colleges admit students through entry tests and therefore, set their own examinations. Some of the different national and state level entrance examinations which students can apply for admissions are Para Veterinary Entrance Exam conducted by Veterinary Council of India (VCI), Agricultural Institute Admission Test conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Diploma Entrance Test conducted by the various State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and State Common Entrance Test (CET) for entry into various diploma courses. 1. Minimum education required is must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognized board. They can also apply for such courses if they have passed 10th standard and have at least 2 years of work experience in a related job.
2. It is mandatory that the candidate must be 16 years of age or more as on the 1st of August of the 2024. In other words, this is a condition without any known age limit, and thus it can affect anyone.
3. There is no specifications of the stream for the students in 10+2 standard, students from science, commerce or arts stream can apply.
4. For admission in 10+2, the minimum percentage required in aggregate is 40-50% depending on the institute. For persons belonging to reserved category 5% relaxation is provided.
