Diplomate National Board (DNB) (Surgical Gastroenterology) is a three-year post-doctoral super-specialty medical course, which is aimed at the surgical treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as cancer, Crohn’s disease, liver diseases, pancreatic diseases. This course is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in the major hospitals of India where several multi-specialty Training Institutes are accredited by The course comprises of formal lectures, case presentations, conferences, journal reviews and seminars besides rigorous practical practical training accompanied with guidance by faculty and trainers in the domain of gastrointestinal surgery.
The entrance examination considered for entry into the DNB (Surgical Gastroenterology) course is NEET-SS (National Eligibility cum- Entrance Test Super Specialty) conducted by NBE, which checks a candidate’s knowledge and the conceptual clinical knowledge in general surgery. Moreover, some of the institutes also carry out their own screening tests in the form of written examination, skill based tests and interviews before they can take the candidates for the 3-year fellowship program.
