MArch or Master of Architecture is a two-year full time course in the subject of Architecture which is offered post graduation. These are some of the specialty areas that one acquires enhanced and profound learning in this course such as; Architectural design, Construction technology, Landscape architecture, Urban design among others. The curriculum involves aspects such as theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring that all-rounded architects are produced. A student gets to learn through concepts such as studio projects, seminars, workshops, site visits, and internship opportunities. Typically, the program takes 4 semesters including 2 academic years. It is also worth mentioning that MArch programs are delivered in most colleges through distance learning so that individuals in full-time employment can study.
The entrance tests leading to the admission of the MArch programme include NATA or National Aptitude Test in Architecture by the Council of Architecture, GATE for Architecture and the tests conducted by the respective colleges and universities. Marks scored in bachelor’s degree are also useful for selection criteria as many institutes shortlist candidates on this basis. However, it is also important to mention that the results of a personal interview and an assessment of the student portfolio also matter during the admission process. Therefore, from the colleges’ requirement in addition to being qualified in any related architecture entrance test, one can gain admission to the Master of Architecture program.
