MA in Anthropology is a postgraduate degree course that deals with the background, growth, and functioning of people. The program seems to take approximately 2 years and is normally offered in 4 semesters. It helps in acquiring adequate information and understanding of the biological and cultural growth of people over time. The courses offered in an MA Anthropology include the principles of social & cultural anthropology, biological & medical anthropology, archaeology theory & methods, ethnographic fieldwork methods, visual anthropology, environmental anthropology, and indigenous anthropology among others.
The entrance tests allowed for admission to the MA Anthropology program in most colleges and universities in India include UGC NET, CUET PG, and other national /state level tests. Some institutes also have merit base criteria and select students based on their performance in the qualifying exam which is a bachelor’s degree in anthropology or any other related field. In addition to marks, some of the colleges do conduct personal interviews and also the statement of purpose filled by the applicant is also considered before giving admission. The minimum eligibility is 55-60% aggregate marks in graduation from any recognized university.

1. Earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology archaeology or related disciplines including history or classics with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0.
2. Provide academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and GRE scores.
3. Have completed undergraduate-level courses in Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Physical Anthropology, Linguistics, and research methodology.
4. Show proficiency in research, writing, critical thinking and analysis skills.
5. Get a TOEFL score for those candidates who are not master in English language as minimum required standard have been set for the purpose.
6. Have practical experience like fieldwork, volunteer at a museum, or working on a dig site.
