Master of Arts (MA) in Economics is a type of postgraduate master’s degree program in the field of economics. The program normally takes 2 years of study and is available in many colleges and universities in India. It offers specialization in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, International Economics, Public Economics, Financial Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Environmental Economics and other fields of study.

The candidates who are eligible for the MA Economics course are those who have passed their Bachelore degree in Economics or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks. Some of the institutes that accept TISSNET, CUCET, etc, for admission accepts the score card along with the passing marks of graduation. Some of the colleges also have their own tests that they administer to students seeking admission. Mentioned work experience in economic positions as an additional benefit enabling the candidate to be accepted to the top colleges offering MA Economics through tests and interviews assessing quantitative, verbal, analytical skills that are essential for the program. 1. The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or other related fields such as statistics, mathematics, commerce with at least 50% marks in aggregate from any recognized university.  

2. Other backgrounds students can also apply after passing certain pre-requisites papers like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Mathematical Economics and Statistics during graduation.

3. While some universities have their own entrance tests, others allow the candidates CAT/MAT/CMAT or accept national level test scores. 

4. Co-op is not mandatory but prior work experience in economic research, banking and finance, data analysis, etc. is preferred by many institutes to choose the candidates.

5. Technical competency: economics masters course demands its students to have good analytical, mathematical and statistical abilities which involves working on data models.
