Master of Arts or MA (Geology) is a postgraduate degree course under the faculty of Geology, which usually spans for two academic sessions. The program offers specialized skills and education in a variety of fields of earth sciences as for example mineralogy, petrology, economic geology, hydrogeology, geostructures and tectonics, geochemistry, sedimentation, environmental geology and more. It encompasses theoretical work and practical sessions where students are taken through rigorously planned and executed teaching techniques. Thus, the general goal of the program is to provide the formation of the integral view on the geological processes that contributed to the formation of the Earth.
The entrance to MA Geology program can be done on the basis of various national and university level entrance examination. Other tests are CSIR UGC NET in Earth Sciences, GATE in Geology/Geophysics, JAM in Geology among others University conducted tests like BHU PET, JNUEE, Calcutta University TEST, Madras University Entrance Test and so on. Passing any of these tests would be a good performance that would make the candidate qualify for the masters program. Apart from this, the candidates also have certain absolute requirements that are prescribed in terms of percentage obtained in graduation.
