Master of Arts (MA) in Women’s Studies is a postgraduate degree designed to offer interdisciplinary understanding on women, gender and feminism. It looks at the position and achievements of women in society and in social science disciplines such as sociology, history, literature, politics, economics, health, law, in the context of gender. On average, the MA Women’s Studies course takes two years of study, which is four semesters.
The entrance exams that are recognized for the purpose of admission to the MA Women’s Studies program also differ from university to university. Some of the standard accepted tests are UGC NET, PET, University entrance tests like DUET, CUET, JNUEE. Many colleges also take the score of the qualifying examinations like BA/ BSc/ B.Com for admission along with interview and statement of purpose. The prerequisite to the course is any Bachelor’s degree regardless of the stream with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

1. It is mandatory to possess a Bachelors Degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized University. Final year students can apply as well.
2. Any student in humanities, liberal arts, social sciences, sciences and etc can apply. No prior knowledge of gender or women’s issues is necessary.
3. Well, there is no age limit for participation in the contest as far as I know. This interdisciplinary program can be pursued by fresh graduates as well as working professionals.
4. The admission process includes passing the entrance test and/or interview conducted by the institutes that provide this program.
5. Positive attitude, good communication skills, a moderate level of analytical skills, and problem-solving ability are the basic requirements to get selected into this master’s program.
