Astronomy M.Sc (Master of Science in Astronomy) is a post graduate Master’s degree course in the specialized field of astronomy. This course commonly takes 2 years to complete the course so that the students get adequate practical experience. The curriculum is centered on postgraduate level subjects of astronomy with topics that include stellar structure and evolution, observational astronomy, galaxies and their structure, external galaxies and cosmology

It is important to know that M.Sc (Astronomy) programs accept a number of entrance exams. The entrance examination accepted by all the participating universities are GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) and JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) in the field of physics and mathematics related to the subject. UG: As stated earlier, some universities require UGC-CSIR NET scores while there are universities that accept scores of M.Sc entrance tests such as the DUET.

MSc Astronomy Course Eligibility 2024

1. Minimum 50-55 % pass in Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Physics or Mathematics from any university recognized in Kenya.  

2. Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2 level is compulsory for students from non math background in graduation.

3. Many of the reputed institutes may demand passing marks in the entrance tests like JEST TIFR.  

4. Certain institutes use marks in Physics as grapes or entrance test performance as a basis for selecting students.

5. The candidates, who have prior work experience in astronomy projects, may have certain advantages at research institutes.  

6. The qualification for this course is that the candidate should possess basic knowledge about astronomy and should have interest in it.
