Master of Arts in Journalism and Communication is a postgraduate degree programme concerned with research on different media platforms, including print, broadcast, cinema, social networks, and digital new media. The completion time for a full-time Ph.D. in Media Studies takes approximately 4-6 years depending on the candidate. Program offerings: Program of study media theories, research methods and selected courses from other fields as sociology, cultural studies, and political science. A major research and scholarly project is completed by the students in the form of a doctoral dissertation that contributes towards the knowledge base in the area of media studies. 

UGC NET, PET, GRE or GATE exams are the entrance examinations that are considered for admission into the Ph.D. Media Studies programs and the performance in interview and writing test conducted by the concerned institutes. Some of the things which a candidate should know: Important dates for the Ph.D. admission cycle: The application process generally starts in April-June each year when the admission notices are released. Panel exams such as the UGC NET are conducted bi annually in June and December. concerning the NBDE results, they are released in November and January respectively. The aptitude tests, skill tests and interviews are conducted for the candidates at institute level mainly in July/August for the selection of candidates for Ph.D. admission which generally starts in December or January session.

PhD Media Studies Course Eligibility 2024

1. Postgraduate in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks specifically in the field of media and communication. 

2. Many universities have their own rules that include qualifying the UGC NET/JRF, SET, GATE etc., some universities conduct their own entrance test.

3. Must have completed all previous classes with satisfactory percentage without any backlogs or drop year. There are some institute where they expect work experience. 

4. well written conclusion and introduction to the research proposal and a good statement of purpose that relates to media studies.

5. For candidates who have not studied in English medium schools, the candidate must have passed the IELTS/TOEFL to demonstrate their proficiency in English language. 

6. The purpose of this round would be to test research aptitude, subject knowledge and communication skills of the candidate during personal interview.
