Post Graduate Diploma in Dental Materials is an academic course that takes one academic year to complete and trains the students in the use of dental materials in treatments. Some of the topics include: physical, mechanical and manipulative properties of dental materials which include gypsum products, impression materials, synthetic resins, metals and alloys, ceramics, cements, waxes, gold and non-gold inlays crowns and bridges etc.
These materials are taught in theory classes, and the principles covered combined with the hands-on practice of unilising these materials in clinical situations gives students a practical understanding of their composition and chemical makeup. They are trained to work and play around with different products used in the dental health sector. The program also focuses on training the manpower to become dental assistants and technicians to be able to support the dentist in dental clinics and laboratories.
