The UGC-NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for determining the eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) to candidates for Indian universities and colleges and for providing temporary absorption to the candidates who are selected on the basis of NET scores for the post of Assistant Professor only. The idea behind the NET exam is to set a benchmark in the eligibility criteria for teachers, researchers, and faculty recruitments from foreign universities.
The exam is split into two papers; paper 1 of the exam assesses the teaching and reasoning ability, reading comprehension skills as well as communication among others Paper 2 of the exam assesses the candidate in the respective subject. Candidates must meet passing standards; a cumulative of 40% and there are no pass marks required in individual papers. It means that it is administered two times in a year, either in June or in December. The pattern, mode, dates, eligibility, and syllabus for a particular examination might differ every year.
