Mumbai University again releases advertisements through its official website and leading newspapers for taking admission to the full-time and part-time PhD programs in the different disciplines of the University every year in May-June. An admission to the program is done through an examination that is held in July-August, accompanied by an interview. Basic requirements include a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent. Interviews are conducted for the candidates clearing the entrance exam, and the final list is made on the basis of the test and interview.
Candidates on the list for final selection must complete all pre-PhD courses if any as specified by the University within one academic year from the date of joinery for research work. The requirements for PhD scholars include coursework, study under a recognized PhD supervisor, and the submission of publications. The minimum time for the completion of the PhD is three years full time and four years part time.

1. Qualification: Please refer to a university’s website of the specific PhD program for which you are applying for, to find out more on requirements such as educational qualification, entrance examination scores.
2. Decide the departments and research areas you are interested in and find if they have any openings and topics for research.
3. Include all the documents such as statement of purpose, academic certificates, scores of the entrance examination etc. as per the instructions of the universities.
4. Certain universities provide an online application form, which is accessible on the university’s official website, and you must complete the form before the set deadline by providing genuine information and uploading relevant documents.
5. Pay the application fee via the mode mentioned while applying for the course.
6. After the completion of the application, keep the original application form and take a print out of the form and the payment receipt.
7. If the candidate has been selected for the personal interview then, the candidate must attend the university for the same. Admission formalities are final steps that have to be undertaken for selection confirmation.

The admission process for the Mumbai University PhD programme for the 2025 batch may start from May 2024. They admitted students through an entrance examination, as well as a face-to-face interview. The eligibility criteria need a postgraduate degree holder with minimum 55% marks. The candidates will write a test which will consist of multiple choice questions that will deal with research ability, contents knowledge and assessment skills. The next phase will involve interviewing where shortlisted candidates will go through an interview that evaluates their academic abilities, research potential, and subject interest.
