The eligibility criteria is dependent on the course offered. The eligibility criteria for BA English is that the candidate should have completed Higher Secondary education or any other equivalent education. For BCom, the candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary in Commerce group. The candidates are eligible for BBA if they have completed 10+2 in any stream. While MA English is accessible to the holders of the BA English degree, MCom can be taken by the holders of the BCom degree. The basic requirement to apply for MBA is a bachelor’s degree in any field with at least 50% marks. Accepted tests are Alagappa University Entrance test, TANCET, MAT, CAT, XAT and ATMA.
The distance education directorate however sets examination twice a year in the span of April-May and October November every year. Available courses across disciplines are BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc, MA, MCom, MSc, MBA, MCA, PG Diploma & certification courses in fields of management, computer applications, psychology, journalism and travel & tourism management.

The BA degree is provided in areas of study such as History, Economics, English literature, Tamil literature and so on. Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary examination in the relevant subjects with the minimum aggregate percentage as prescribed by the university. HSC, CBSE, State Boards are the accepted exams for admission. BCom is also provided by DDE in general commerce, accounting & finance, corporate secretaryship streams. As for the admission process, candidates must have completed 10+2 in Commerce or related fields to join these BCom courses.
The Directorate of Distance Education provides the undergraduate degree programmes in arts, science commerce and computer applications. Some of the programs offered under the UG include the Bachelor of Arts (BA), the Bachelor of Science (BSc), the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), and the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA).
Alagappa University, Directorate of Distance Education, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu offers Ph.D programs under various departments. The requirements for one to apply for a PhD differ across departments. The eligibility criteria for admission to the PhD in Management program includes; Candidates who have cleared the NET/SLET exam or those with a Master’s degree in any field with an aggregate mark of 55%. For admission to the PhD in Education, the candidates must have passed NET/SLET examination. For admission in PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry candidates should have passed post graduate examination in the respective subject with not less than 55% marks. The other national level tests that are accepted across all the PhD programs include UGC NET, UGC CSIR NET, SET/SLET, GATE, ICAR, ICMR, TIFR etc.
