Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) is a central university located at Thiruvarur and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in arts, science, education law and management etc. The eligibility norms differ by departments – For BA Economics 50% in Class XII, for BSc Physics 55% in Physics, Chemistry & Maths in Class XII, BEd 50% in graduation, LLB 45% in any UG degree, and MBA 50% in graduation. For the UG, CUTN accepts Class 12 state board, CBSE, ICSE as the qualifying exam and for PG, graduation from any university recognized by the university.
CUTN teaches courses in faculties of arts and humanities, science and social science, education, management, and law. Some of the most preferred undergraduate programs are B.A in Economics, Political Science, English, B.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and B.com. Postgraduate courses are MA English, Economics, MSc Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, MCom, LLM, MEd and MBA. The entrance examinations conducted are CUTN Common Entrance Test (CUTN-CET) which is usually in May-June for the UG courses, CUTN-PET for PG in July and interview for MPhil and PhD courses. Application forms are available online on the university website by February-March each year. Applicants who meet the requirements can apply before the date set in April. The students are admitted based on their performance in the entrance test, their previous academic performance and a round of interviews. The admission offer letters are sent out by July for the academic year that starts in August 2024.

- The shortlisted candidates are expected to undergo a group discussion and personal interview round. The candidate is finally chosen according to the performance in CUCET, the group discussion and the interview where CUCET carries a weighted age of 70% while the group discussion and interview carries 30% weightage.
- For SC/ST/OBC category students, there is a concession of 10% in the cut-off marks for the eligibility criteria.
- The candidates from the general category must have minimum 50% of aggregate marks in their respective bachelor degree. For reserved candidates, the minimum percentage is 45%.
- There is no requirement to have work experience in order to be accepted on the MBA program at CUTN Thiruvarur. It is also open to fresh graduates.
- Other than academic aptitude and performance in CUCET, GRE, TOEFL etc the student’s communication skills, general awareness about the subject, analytical and critical thinking abilities etc are measured during the GD/PI phase of the selection process.
