Dr. Homi Bhabha State University Mumbai provides many courses in science, commerce, arts, law, education, etc., at the UG and PG levels of education; however, the admission criteria differ for each department. For B.Sc programs such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, candidates must have passed 12th Science with a minimum of 50% in aggregate. For B.Com and M.Com, the candidate should have passed 12th Commerce background with minimum 50% marks. For BA in subjects like English, Economics, Psychology, 12th in any stream with minimum aggregate 50% are eligible. The major exams accepted are HSC, CBSE, ICSE and the candidate must have secured adequate marks. M.Sc. courses in areas such as Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics admit students with B.Sc. with minimum 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. Such integrated law courses like the BA+LLB demand at least 12th pass in any stream with 50% pass marks. B.Ed program takes candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree in BA, B.Sc or B.Com.
The university sets common entry exams for various programs for May in the year 2024. The application process starts in March 2024 years. Any course like B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.Ed, Integrated B.A+LLB, BBA, BCA, MCA, M.A, M.Com, M.Sc., MBA the and other PG diploma courses in diverse fields are provided by the university. The students can visit the university’s official website for any information related to exam schedules, application forms, admission requirements and process for the intended program. The university gives certain relaxation in eligibility marks for the students belonging to the reserved category. Students are admitted based on the score of the entrance exam, 12th/ Graduation percentage, performance in personal interview rounds conducted for the respective department.
Homi Bhabha State University (HBSU) Mumbai is one of the best university in Maharashtra which provides different under graduate and post graduate courses in the field of Science, Humanities, Engineering , Law etc. Students can take admission in HBSU Mumbai through online as well as offline medium.
In order to apply online, the students need to go through the website of HBSU at hbsumumbai.ac.in. On the homepage, go to the ‘Admissions’ tab and then choose the appropriate course of study. First, read through the admission notification and the eligibility criteria of the program before going on to complete the application form. Scanned copies of all the documents have to be uploaded and the application fees has to be paid through net banking/debit card/ credit card.
For offline admission, the students need to get the admission form either through the download option available on the university website or can directly approach the university admission office to collect the form. Original and Photocopies of the documents required and the Application fee can be deposited at the designated centers. There are three ways of admission whereby the applicants are admitted on merit, whereby merit is in form of qualifying examination scores and/or HBSU entrance examination results where applicable. The selection lists are published on the notice board of the university’s website and the selected candidates can fulfill other formalities of admission within prescribed dates only.
- It is possible that the admission for Ph.D. programs is to be declared in the month of July/August 2024. The specific dates may differ.
- The university admission portal is typically used to submit an application online. Before the deadline, candidates have to register and fill the application form for the respective post.
- The common eligibility criteria comprises of having a master’s degree in the respective stream with a minimum of 55% marks. There could be leniency for candidates belonging to the reserved category.
- Ph.d admission may require entrance examination. It many a times involves a written test and an interview.
- The candidates are selected on the basis of performance in the entrance test, interview, academic performance and the number of seats available in the particular course.
- The candidates must hold a master’s degree in the concerned subject with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade. The government rules may allow for relaxation in the case of reserved category candidates in terms of relaxation.
- Applications are only accepted once a year through advertisement. As for the application process, the candidates have to apply as per the details mentioned in the advertisement.
- Written test: There may be cases where a candidate may be required to write a test set by the university. The format of the test, syllabi, etc. vary based on the department and subject area.
- Interview: Candidates who have scored well in the written test and/or academic achievements will be invited for an person interview. The interview panel assesses the candidates’ subject knowledge, research potential and interest during the interview.
- The last round of screening involves the performance of the candidates in the written test and the interview besides the academic achievements and research proposal/ statement of purpose.
- Extra conditions such as work experience, performance in national level tests,NET/ SET, may also be applicable in some departments.
1. It is recommended to visit the university’s official website or contact the department of interest to learn about the time when Ph.D. programs are accepting applications and when the deadline is. And the admission process is normally done once in a year.
2. Choose a particular professor from the faculty members of your preferred department who might be willing to supervise your Ph.D. Contact them and talk to them about your research plans. It is usually necessary to obtain their approval whenever applying for the same.
3. When the admission call is out, visit the university website to download the Ph.D. admission application form and prospectus. Read the criteria for admission, entry requirements etc.
4. Submit the application form in its entirety and provide information about your educational background, research experience, area of interest, and the like, following all the guidelines provided.
5. Enclose copies of degrees/marksheets, experience certificates, research proposal, letters of recommendation etc along with the application.
6. Enclose the application form duly filled and attested along with the admission application fee which is normally paid online within the stipulated date. Provide any other document that may be deemed necessary by the concerned department.
7. Sit for the entrance examination/ interview round if any. There is a difference in the selection criteria depending on the department.
8. It can be checked after the completion of the admission process either by the university or through the admission notification section of the university website. If selected, contact the university/department for further process.
- The announcements for the admissions are normally made in the months of May/June for the academic year commencing in July/August. For exact timings though, the candidate is advised to keep checking the university’s website or reach out to them.
- The admissions are made through PET, GATE or any other entrance examination or as per the merit of the M.Sc. program.
