The university is officially known as the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University or simply Avadh University and is a public state university founded in the city of Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in the year 1975, the University Grants Commission of India has recognized the university and it has been accredited NAAC-B+ grade. As per FIRU NIRF rankings 2023, Avadh University was placed in the Category of Universities Band C, where its rank was 101-150 among universities in India.

1. For the Bachelor’s degree courses such as BA, BSc, BCom etc the candidate must have passed their 12th standard examination in any recognized by the University Board and should have secured at least 50% of marks.
2. For Master’s degree such as MA, MSc, MCom etc, candidates should possess a Bachelors’ degree in the respective field with pass percentage of 50% from a recognized university.
3. For admission to MPhil program, the candidates are required to have passed the Master’s degree in the relevant subject, securing a minimum of 55% of marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
4. For the admission in PhD programs, candidate should have a Master’s degree in relevant subjects with minimum 55% marks or hold MPhil degree of a recognized university along with the entrance test.
