Himachal Pradesh University is in Shimla and was established in 1970 under an Act of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. It has the accreditation of NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in which it has secured an ‘A’ grade which shows that it provides high quality teaching, learning and research facilities. As per the NIRF ranking 2023 that has been recently announced, Himachal Pradesh University stands at 101-150 in the University ranking of the country. The university provides undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes for science, commerce, arts, education, physical education, computer application, management, laws etc Stream The university has more than 200 colleges under its affiliation in the state.
UG and PG courses, management courses, computer science courses, arts and humanities courses, biotechnology, engineering, mass communication, journalism, and doctoral programs are few among them. For instance, some of the well-known courses are BA, BSc, BCom, MA/MSc in English, Psychology, Home Science, Physics, Chemist, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Commerce, MBA, MCA, BEd, LLB and so on For most UG courses admission is granted strictly on merit in the qualifying examination. For PG and other courses of study, university holds a state level common entrance test which is HP-CET. Most application process takes place in April /May, and the students who have been chosen have to accept the offer by September. They are ordinarily conducted in the months of April–May, and November–December of the academic year. It should also be noted that all detailed schedule is published on official web site.
The university has placement cell that work throughout the year for the final year students for on campus recruitment. Some of the leading recruiters at the campus are Wipro, Infosys, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Federal Bank etc. The average placement of over 300 students in different companies per year with an average salary package varying from ? 3 to ?5 lakhs per annum. Regarding the highest salary package on the campus, it is up to ?12 lakhs per annum for the IT sector only. The placement rate has showed a steady rise over the years as the course structure is based on job markets.

Himachal Pradesh University Placements 2024
The University, which is a prominent higher education institution in the region, recorded a successful placement season for the 2021-22 passing out batch across all programmes. Over 200 enterprises engaged in campus recruiting and extended over 2,500 offers to the students. Some of the organisations which actively participated in the recruitment process were Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, and Tech Mahindra. The maximum salary package was Rs 32,00,000 per annum, offered by American Express while the median was Rs 6,80,000 per annum at the end of the campus recruitment drive. Finally, 93 percent of the students were placed in various companies, but 100 percent placements were reported in computer science and information technology branches. Few of the sectors they were offered jobs included IT, analytics, banking, consultancy, education and telecom among others. Even if one disregards the placement of the university in the higher rankings, the consistently high positions reflect the quality of academic training offered at HPU.
