IIT Jammu is one of the new generation Indian Institutes of Technology located in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and was established in 2016. This institution is called as IIT Jammu and it has been declared as an institute of National Importance and it is being recognized under Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. IIT Jammu was granted an ‘A’ grade in the year 2022 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which approves of the quality of education in the institute. According to NIRF Rankings 2023, IIT Jammu Stand in rank in 81 in engineering colleges in India.
IIT Jammu provides the BTech, MTech, MS and PhD degrees for the students in different fields of engineering and sciences such as Computer Science and Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Biotechnology; Material Science; Chemistry and Physics; Mathematics. The admission in BTech is done through JEE Advanced exam only which is considered as one of the biggest institutes for admission in engineering colleges in India. Candidates who want to join M.Phil or PhD courses must clear GATE or NET examination depending on the stream of the course.

1. Up to the maximum age of 25 years for the general candidates and 30 years for reserved candidates as per the admission date. Some relaxations may apply.
2. For BTech programs – candidates who passed the 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects. General candidates are required to have an aggregate of the minimum 60 percent of marks.
3. For MTech programs, passed in BTech/BE or equivalent examination in the relevant subject or branch. Passing marks are 60% in aggregate and CGPA of 6.5 on the scale of 10. Relaxation for reserved categories.
4. For MS programs, passed BTech/BE or its equivalent degree in a relevant discipline as recognised by this University. It is mandatory to have at least 60% aggregate marks throughout Class XI and XII.
5. For the PhD programs, passed MTech/ME or equivalent degree in any relevant field from any University. Minimum 60% of aggregate marks are must for the person intending to apply for the post. Valid GATE/NET qualification required.
6. For all programs, required: English language capability at a sufficient level. Whether a candidate belongs to any of the reserved categories, he or she must produce a valid certificate.
The placement scenario of IIT Jammu has also shown equal growth over the years. The records of the institute suggest that in the 2021-22 academic session more than 80 % of the students were placed in different organizations. Some of the key employers that participated in campus recruitment programmes are Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Bharti Airtel, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart. The top recruiters along with salary offered were QuantBox Research offering Rs 43.6 lakh per annum and the overall average salary was Rs 11.5 lakh per annum. From more than 150 organisations, the placements were conducted including more than 20 international offers. Areas where students have been hired includes Information Technology, Core Engineering, Analytics & Research, Banking & Financial Services, Consultancy Services and many more. IIT Jammu will target towards increasing placements in coming years as the institute’s brand value and physical plant grow.
