Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya (KJV) is a state university situated at Ramanagara District, Karnataka. Located in Kerala, India, KJV was founded in 2011 with the mission to support folk and traditional arts through teaching and learning. The university is accredited by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC) and has been awarded the B grade by the NAAC. As per NIRF rankings of the year 2023, KJV has been positioned among the 76th university in India. 

KJV provides various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses in the field of folk arts and Janapada studies, performing arts, social and natural sciences, life sciences and many other fields. Some of the well-known courses are: BA in Janapada, MA in Folklore, MSc in Sericulture, PG Diploma courses in Yakshagana and Classical Music etc. The admission process is normally undertaken in the month of May of each year. Some courses have entrance examinations in June-July and are followed by counselling sessions. It is interesting to note that the new academic session starts in August. The examination dates are determined and announced based on the standard set by the university.

KJV has affiliations with various organizations for the conduct of student training and placements. Some of the renowned recruiters include Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy, Bangalore Rural Handicrafts Society, Karnataka Folklore University, Central Silk Board and so on. Many students also get employed in the university as research assistants, technical assistants, and teachers with an average salary of 15,000 to 25,000 per month depending on their qualifications. Records of the recent years indicate that the placement rate for the numerous programs offered is 60- 80 percent.

Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. For BA programs, the candidates should have cleared 12th standard (or equivalent) and must have obtained minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved category). Subjects depend on the BA specialization the candidate has chosen to undertake.

2. For BCom programs, candidate must be 12th passed with minimum 45% marks (40% for reserved category) with Commerce/Maths/Accounts as a subject. 

3. For BSc programs, only those candidates are eligible who have passed 12th Science stream with minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved category). BSc subjects needed depends with the course of study that a learner wishes to undertake. 

4. For BA BEd/BSc BEd integrated programs, 12th passed candidates in the relevant stream with minimum 50% marks (45% for reserved category) can apply.

5. For MA programs, graduation in the relevant specialization is mandatory along with minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved category) in UG. 

6. MCom programs: Admission is open to BCom graduates with a minimum 45% overall marks for the general category and 40% for the reserved category. There may be cases when specialization is defined for some particular programs.

Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya in Gotagodi, Shiggaon comprises of different undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and PhD courses in the subjects like folklore, performing arts, and other aspects of intangible cultural heritage. 

It was set up in 2011 as per the Karnataka State Universities Act of 2000 and is the first folklore university in India working for the upliftment and preservation of Janapada. Its interdisciplinary programs combine folklore with other disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, linguistics, history, arts and culture.

There is an improvement in the placements offered to the students of Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya in the recent years. Some of the top companies that come to the campus for placements are Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Accenture and Tech Mahindra. Infosys was the top recruiter of the batch offering the maximum salary package of Rs. 8 lakh per annum in 2021. The average salary package offered in the campus ranges from Rs. 3-4 lakh per annum. The placement statistics for the previous year indicated that about 60-70% of the eligible students were offered placements by several reputed firms. Since more emphasis and practice for aptitude tests and technical skills have been provided for the current final year students, the university placement cell expects 80% placements with an average salary of nearly Rs. 4 lakhs per annum in the next placement.
