NBRC, Gurgaon is one of the foremost national institutes dedicated to research in the field of neuroscience with special emphasis on the study of the brain and nervous system. NBRC has department in different streams such as Neuroscience, Neurochemistry, Neurobiology, Systems Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Neuropharmacology, Computational Neuroscience etc. The minimum requirement for most of the PhD programs is a master’s degree in related fields such as Biological Sciences or Neuroscience with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. The departments also offer the national level tests like CSIR-NET, GATE, or NBRC’s own TIFR PhD Entrance Exam.
NBRC provides doctoral education in full-time, part-time, and integrated Ph.D. modes in addition to various short and long duration research training fellowship programs in different disciplines. Some of the famous courses are PhD Neuroscience, PhD Neurochemistry, PhD Neurobiology, PhD Computational Neuroscience, Integrated PhD Neuroscience etc. The application and admission process usually commence around September- November through NBRC web site and National level test for the next academic year starting in July-August. The specific dates for the exams as well as the application timelines differ depending on which of the national level exams is being considered. Candidates must refer to the official websites and advertisements for specific time frames, program requirements, and selection procedures before applying for the National Brain Research Centre, Gurgaon for the academic year 2024 PhD programs. To gain admission in the course, one has to clear an admitted national level exam, if shortlisted for an interview at NBRC and/or a test.
Geographically located in Manesar, Gurgaon, the NBRC admit students to its PhD programs in neuroscience and related disciplines twice a year. The same can be done either online or through a traditional application.
For NBRC PhD course admission, the online application process entails visiting the official website at nbrc.ac.in and navigating to the ‘Academics’ tab. Here, to apply for admission, candidates have to go to ‘Admission Notification’ to access the online application form. It is required to complete all the fields, provide the scan of the necessary documents, and send the form before the due date. The payment of the application fees can also be made online.
For the offline admission procedure, the candidate has to download the PhD application form mentioned on the website. The prescribed forms completed along with the demand drafts towards fees should be posted in the speed post or hand delivered to the Centre on or before the last date. Candidates are also encouraged to check any changes in the selection procedure, written examination, and interview schedule on the NBRC Gurgaon website or notice board. In case of short listing, the candidate is informed by e-mail or by registered post.

- Percentage/grades obtained in the bachelor’s degree – Your performance in your bachelor’s degree especially in courses related to M.Sc. discipline are usually considered. Minimum percentage criterion may exist.
- Interviews – Some colleges may conduct interviews for the candidates as one of the requirements before offering admittance. This evaluates other criteria like communication skills, interests, aptitude, etc.
- Some programs also take into account factors such as work experience, research experience, number of publications etc.
