NITK Surathkal provides BTech, MTech, MS and PhD degrees in engineering and technology, sciences, and humanities, with specialization in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering etc. The admission to the BTech programs is based on JEE Mains ranking and JOSAA counseling and GATE scores for admission into MTech. The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal is one of the premium NITs in India for engineering and technology. NITK has a first and second shift with several disciplines of B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., and PhD programs in the engineering and sciences streams. 

Some of the BTech specializations that students can take at NITK are based on Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Metallurgy, and Marine engineering among others. NIT Surathkal is recognized for having one of the best placement facilities among all engineering colleges. But, large corporate like Microsoft, Amazon, Texas Instruments, Deloitte, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, etc., that hire students from the institute.
