National Institute of Technology Manipur (NIT Manipur) is one of the thirty one NITs all over India established by Government of India. NIT Manipur is an autonomous body affiliated to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It has currently been accredited grade ‘A’ under NAAC.
The University provides BTech programmes in most of the core branches of engineering namely Computer Science &Engineering, Electronics &Communication Engineering, Electrical &Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. It also provides MTech in Communication Systems, Power Systems and Structural Engineering disciplines. Admission to BTech programmes is through JEE Main examination, and then the JoSAA for the distribution of the seats. MTech admission is Gateway to Admission through scores of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.

1. A candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in the respective stream i.e Science/Commerce/Arts with minimum 60-70% marks category wise depending upon the norms of university.
2. For the BTech streams, the candidate must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Maths subjects securing minimum 60-70% in PCM as per the candidate category
3. For MTech, candidate needs to possess B tech/ BE degree in respective discipline with minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA grade.
4. For MBA, candidate should have completed 10 + 2 years of education and should have obtained at least 50% marks in any discipline.
5. To be an eligible candidate for PhD, candidate must have master’s degree in the concerned discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.
6. Some of the areas which are agreed to be relaxed are the reduction in cutoff percentages offered to the reserved category candidates as per the government policy.
The university has decent placement records for its engineering students every year in terms of placement and career opportunities. During the last year, more than 75 companies visited NIT Manipur for campus placement to offer jobs to the students of the Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering streams. Some of the leading recruiters who visited the campus for placements were Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, L&T Technology Services, and Wipro; the maximum salary offered being around Rs 18, 00,000 per annum. In all, nearly out of the total students who registered for placements, 60% were placed in reputed firms with an average starting pay scale of around Rs 60000/- per annum.
