National Institute of Technology Silchar, popularly known as NIT Silchar, has a wide spectrum of academic disciplines and provides the degree of Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration and Master of Science. The major departments in NIT Silchar constitute Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Humanities and Social Sciences. The admission requirement is different from one department to another but the most common one is having at least 60-70% aggregate in 10+2 exams. Candidates should have valid GATE / NET scores or other equivalent national level examination qualification. For admission to the PhD program, exams such as GATE, CSIR-NET, NBHM, JEST, JGEEBILS, ICMR, DBT are conducted where students are admitted based on the discipline that they choose to specialize in at NIT Silchar.
