National Institute of Technology Silchar, popularly known as NIT Silchar, has a wide spectrum of academic disciplines and provides the degree of Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration and Master of Science. The major departments in NIT Silchar constitute Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Humanities and Social Sciences. The admission requirement is different from one department to another but the most common one is having at least 60-70% aggregate in 10+2 exams. Accepted tests are JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, GATE, CAT, CMAT, MAT and the tests conducted by the respective institute.
The NIT Silchar admission process is fully based on an online mode where the National Institute of Technology Silchar also releases its notification for admissions to the BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD courses every year.

The engineering institution has numerous undergraduate courses in fields of engineering, sciences, arts, and humanities. The specializations are delivered by computer science engineering department and the BTech computer science is for students who passed class 12th or cleared JEE main exams with minimum 75% aggregate marks in PCM. The university has electrical engineering depart and offer BTech in electrical engineering and for the admission candidate should have minimum 70 % marks in PCM or appeared in JEE Main. Computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering are some of the other UG programs which are equally popular among students who have passed their 10+2 examination and are accepted on the basis of JEE Main and WBJEEE among other national level tests.
National Institute of Technology, Silchar has several departments that offer PhD programs such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Humanities and Social Sciences. The admission criteria of PhD program are having master’s degree in relevant discipline and must have secured minimum 60% of aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale. Candidates should have valid GATE / NET scores or other equivalent national level examination qualification. For admission to the PhD program, exams such as GATE, CSIR-NET, NBHM, JEST, JGEEBILS, ICMR, DBT are conducted where students are admitted based on the discipline that they choose to specialize in at NIT Silchar.
