Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) is an agricultural university in Kashmir, India. Established in 1982, the university aims at providing education, research and extension services in agricultural sciences. SKUAST-K has been accredited grade ‘A’ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and ranked 95th in Agricultural Universities as per NIRF Ranking 2023. The university delivers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in fields of agriculture, horticulture, forestry, agricultural engineering, fishery, sericulture, food science and technology, dairy technology and basic sciences.

SKUAST-K has several programs including the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Agricultural Engineering among others. At postgraduate level, it offers M.Sc. and M.Tech. degrees in various specializations. The university also provides MBA and M.Sc. in Food Technology programs. Admission process is from May every year and the written tests are conducted in the month of July. The final decision to be made is done based on previous performance in school and scores on the entrance test. The following are the most common entrance examinations for Postgraduate admissions in SKUAST-K: SKUAST-K PG Entrance Exam, ICAR AIEEA and JRF/SRF. The admission process of the year 2024 will start in April or May of 2023.

SKUAST-K has a very active placement cell that helps final year students to get placed in reputed organizations. Over fifteen national and multinational crop, food processing, technology and dairy companies come to the campus for campus recruitments every year. The maximum salary offered in 2022 was INR 18 LPA and the median was INR 5-6 LPA. Some of the recruiters are Britannia, Nestle, Parle Agro, Dabur, Godrej Agrovet etc An astounding 85% and above of the students eligible for placement got placed through on-campus and off-campus drives conducted by the placement cell of the college last year. The placement record reveals improved career prospects for SKUAST-K graduates.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. Should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in science/agriculture stream with not less than 50% marks for general candidates & 45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates.  

2. For all the BTech programmes, candidate must have a valid JEE Main score. For BSc Agriculture and allied programs, valid score in ICAR AIEEA examination is mandatory.

3. For MSc and PhD, a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is mandatory and minimum percentage must be fulfilled according to the standards. NET/GATE qualification preferred.  

4. They must meet the age limit criteria as laid down by the university from time to time. Upper age limit relaxed for candidates from reserved category.

5. Must sit for the university entrance and/or interview test, if there is any for the program.  

6. Meritorious list prepared at the end considering some of the factors like qualifying examination marks, entrance test, interview marks, academic marks etc.

The training and placement cell of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology helps the students in getting internships and final placements. Some of the recruiting companies are ICAR, agriculture departments of J&K, Punjab & Haryana, seed and fertilizer companies, and food processing industries. The maximum salary package offered was 18 lakhs per annum by Rallis India. The salary package offered to an employee varies from INR 40,000 to INR 60,000 per annum. It is estimated that 60-70% of students are placed through campus recruitment and off campus recruitments every year. These include Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Food Technology with a higher placement rate than other programs. The placement cell also assists the students in matters concerning higher education within India and other foreign countries.
