Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya (SJSV) is a state university located in the city of Puri in the state of Odisha. SJSV was set up in 1981 and it aims at the conservation and enhancement of Sanskrit language, literature, philosophy and traditions. It has NAAC accreditation with Grade A and has achieved a CGPA of 3.11 which reflects high quality of education. According to the NIRF 2023 university rankings released recently, SJSV has been ranked 101 out of 200 universities in India.  

SJSV provides several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in nine departments namely Veda, Vyakarna, Sahitya, Darshan, Jyotish, Dharmasastra, Music & Fine Arts, Linguistics and Education. Some of its key programs consist of Acharya in Sanskrit, Master of Arts in subjects such as Vedanta Darshan, Indian Philosophy and Religion, and specializations in Astrology. Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. The candidates should have cleared 10+2 or equivalent examination with 50 % marks for the general candidates and 45% for reserved category.

2. For BA Honours, candidates should have passed Sanskrit as one of the subjects in 10+2 level. For MA, BA, degree in the relevant subject is mandatory and candidates should secure minimum 50% marks for the general category.  

3. For admission to MPhil programme, one must have a minimum of 55% in the post graduate degree in the concerned subject. Even final year students are eligible for the post provided they have their certificates in the concerned field.

4. The criteria for admission to PhD are: Post graduation degree with at least 55% marks; and, UGC/CSIR NET/SLET cleared or a holder of teacher fellowship. 

5. This application should be sent online or offline with the scanned copies of documents, photographs and application fees as per the university rules governing the same.

6. The admission criteria comprises of eligibility status, any entrance test that may have been conducted and interview conducted by the university administration. It is subject to the policy followed in the matter of reservation as per the government policies.

The Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya is a state university in the city of Puri in Odisha and was set up in the year 1981 as per the Odisha University Act, 1981 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university of Sanskrit and the integrated streams of learning. It provides Shastri (B.A), Acharya (M.A) and Vidya Varidhi (Ph.D) in faculties like Veda, Vyakarana, Sahitya, Darshan, Jyotish, Dharmashastra, Buddhist Studies and more.
