St. Edmund’s college Shillong is an undergraduate and postgraduate college having courses in arts, science and commerce stream. The requirements for each department and program differ. For BA programs such as Accounting and Finance, Business and Management, Communication and Media, Economics, English, History, Political Science, the minimum requirement is passing the 12th standard examinations in any stream. For BSc programs such as Botany, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Zoology, students should have passed class 12th with science stream subjects. For BCom, the minimum requirement is passing the class 12 from any stream is required. The college accepts qualifying exams such as HSCL/CBSE/ICSE for admission to these under graduate programmes.
The college provides courses in the fields of arts, science, and commerce at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The major courses offered include the Undergraduate Programme which include the BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, Mass Communication and Social Work while the Postgraduate Programme consist of MA in English, Mass Comm, MCom, MSc.

St. Edmund’s College Shillong has over the years been offering a range of undergraduate degrees in the faculties of arts, sciences and commerce. The BA program offered by departments like English, Economics, History, Philosophy, and Political Science needs the candidates to have passed in the higher secondary examination in the subjects offered with a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate. Science streams including Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Mathematics provide BSc degree and admission criteria include 50% marks in Higher Secondary examination like CBSE/ISC with compulsory subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology. The BCom program offered under the commerce department requires 50% pass in the higher secondary commerce stream. The HSCL, CBSE, ICSE and other state boards are the qualifying examinations accepted for UG admission.

The eligibility criteria different for every department which general need Master’s degree in the concern subject with minimum 55% marks in aggregate. The exams accepted are UGC NET, SET/SLET, GATE, M.Phil or any other examination recognized by the UGC.
The PhD courses include various streams in sciences humanities and business and interdisciplinary fields. PhD programs offered are: Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Commerce, English Literature, Education, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, History, Political Science and Geography.
