The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University was founded in the year 1987 and is a university established by the government of Tamil Nadu located in Chennai. It is accredited to the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India and is NAAC accredited with an ‘A’ grade. Graduate and postgraduate programs offered in the university include; medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, and other related disciplines in health sciences. NIRF ranking in 2023 ranked it at 26th among medical universities in India and 17th among all Universities in Tamil Nadu.
It has a diverse program that can be taken up in the university by the students and covers many fields of study. The main programs for which admissions are offered include the MBBS, the BDS, the MD courses, the MS, the MDS, the B.Pharm, the D.Pharm, the B.Sc Nursing, the M.Sc Nursing, the BPT and the MPT. The admission process normally commence in May each year where forms and examinations like the National Entrance Examination for Undergraduate Courses (NEET) are released for undergraduate courses. The leading recruiting companies according to the data obtained are Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and Amazon. The maximum salary packages handed out by Cognizant in were Rs. 18 lakhs per annum. The salary of undergraduate programs ranges from Rs 1.5 lakh per annum to Rs 4.5 lakh per annum with an average of Rs 3.5 lakh per annum. The salary packages that were offered ranged from Rs 4-6 lakh per annum in average for the postgraduate and diploma students.
