University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, abbreviated as UPES, is one of the leading private universities in Dehradun, the capital city of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. Its foundation was laid in 2003 under the UPES Act, 2003 passed by the State Legislature of Uttaranchal. UPES is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and Approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The NAAC has recently awarded UPES an ‘A+’ Grade which is a testimony to the quality of education that the university imparts. According to the NIRF ranking 2023 UPES stands at 87th position in the list of universities of India.
UPES provides bachelors, masters and doctoral courses in various fields such as engineering, management, health sciences, media design technology, law etc. Generally, the programmes it offers are B.tech, M.tech, MBA, BBA, BCA, BA, B.des, LLB, PhD. UPES has its own aptitude tests for admission to certain courses such as the UPESEAT for the BTech programme, however, some programmes such as the MBA programme accept standardized tests as the XAT or the CAT. Organizing the academic year in two semesters is another feature of the UPES academic calendar. Admission deadlines for 2024 academic year are - UG courses: In the case of the June 2024, for PG courses and in May 2024 for the other courses. The admit process comprises online application, entrance test/academic performance, personal interview round. They are also given out on the basis of the result of the student who is applying for it.
About placement, the UPES offers a fine placement facility to its students with best over 557 companies visiting in campus for placements in 2022. IBM, Flipkart, Tech Mahindra, Accenture are some of the major recruiters who have hired the UPES graduates with an average salary package of 10.8 LPA highest salary package was of 43.6 LPA as per the placement year 2022. More than 8289 job offers were made and the employments were offered to 90% of the students in reputed companies.
