IIIT is a group of institutes which are dedicated to information technology and research related to Information Technology in India. IIITs are established in form of public-private partnership institutes recognized by the Ministry of Education and participating State Governments. IIITs came into existence in India in 1960 and there are currently 25 approved and recognized IIITs in India in 2023. Quality education is critical: many IIITs have received NAAC accreditation. The NIRF data for 2023 has provided a number of IIITs as prominent participants in the list of top 100 engineering colleges in India.
IIITs provide programs at the bachelor, masters, and Ph.D. level in the subjects of Computer Science, Electronics, Communication, Data Science and many more. JEE Main also allows admissions to these institutes. Exam dates for 2024 intake are yet to be released but tentatively set January-April 2023. IIITs also take into account the performance in competitive exams such as KVPY, Olympiads as well as board exams. The first application phase usually starts in January of every year. Application is through written tests and interviews. Distributon of seats is also according to the dispositions of govt 85% of seats available are for home state students.
