1. It is an exam based university that offers admissions to only those candidates who secure good ranks in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) examination. In addition, to qualify in NATA, candidates have to secure the set cutoff marks offered by IGI Pune.
2. For candidates belonging to Maharashtra state there is specific entrance test namely Maharashtra Architecture Common Entrance Test Cell (MACT). They also need to clear the MACT exam with required percentage for IGI Pune.
3. Apart from the NATA / MAAT scores, the candidates need to clear their class 12 or equivalent examination in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics stream with minimum aggregate percentage as prescribed by the Institute.
4. The candidates shortlisted have to write a test at the Studio organized by IGI Pune to join the company later. It challenges the candidate creatively and as a workers.

The final merit list is based on 40% weight for the normalized marks obtained in NATA/MACT exam, 30% weight for the normalized aggregate marks of Class 12 and 30% weight for the normalized Studio Test.
