NIFT is a national level institute for fashion studies that is situated in India and is a government funded institution. NIFT was initiated in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, NIFT has set a trend for creating visions and evolutions in the sphere of fashion education. Currently, NIFT has 17 campus across the country and the institute offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in design, management and technology stream. 

University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs in all areas of fashion such as Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Accessories Design, Textiles, Knits, Fashion Management, Technology and Apparel Production. Other relevant tests that are normally taken include the NIFT examination conducted in January and GAT. If the concerned committee follows the same trend, the NIFT entrance exam for the batch starting from 2024 will be conducted in January 2024. It involves passing of the creative ability test, GAT examination, group discussions and interviews as the admission criteria.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. BDes in Fashion Design: It requires pass in 10+2 in any recognized board minimum 50% marks in in four subjects to be taken into consideration. No age limit. Portfolio, entrance test, and interview are the compulsory for admission into the institution.

2. BDes in Leather Design: Have minimum 50% pass percentage in 10+2 exam conducted by any central or state board in India. No age limit. Portfolio and entrance test are mandatory, and interview may be conducted.  

3. BDes in Accessory Design: Clear 10+2 from any recognized board with minimum 50% in four subjects which include the best four subjects. No age limit. An entrance test and an interview are also mandatory, along with submission of portfolio.

4. BDes in Textile Design: Minimum 10+2 from any board, aggregate of 50% marks in the best of four subjects is necessary. No age limit. It is noted that the program requires the portfolio, entrance test, and interview. 

5. MDes in Design: Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in design or any field that is comparable to the job description mentioned above. Portfolio and interview required. It may be beneficial if the candidate has had some work experience.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Courses Details 2024

NIFT stands for National Institute of Fashion Technology and it is one of the most sought after fashion designing institutes of India having centres all across the country. It’s an institute of national importance that provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in design, management, technology, and other streams connected to fashion. 

The most important undergraduate programmes offered at NIFT are BDes in Fashion Design and Leather Design, Accessory Design and Textile Design and Knitwear Design among others. The postgraduate programs include the Master of Design (MDes) , Master of Fashion Management (MFM) and Master of Fashion Technology (MFT).
