B.Tech (Food Science and Technology) refers to an undergraduate course that deals with food science and technology involving the science of converting food products from raw form to consumable stage including processing, preservation, packaging, distribution, and quality analysis. This is a 4-year degree program that offers a wide knowledge of the chemistry of food, nutrition science, microbiology, engineering and safety among others. There is value addition to what is taught in the classroom as students get actual hands-on experience in the analysis of foods, development of products, quality control, and management of equipment. Some of the areas of focus sought include food processing technology, food packaging, food safety, food biotechnology, cereal science, dairy technology among others. Students receive internship placements and have job prospects to work in the food manufacturing, research, quality assurance, food law enforcement, and consulting industry.

The entrance tests valid for the admission into B.Tech (Food Science and Technology) include the JEE Main, UPSEE, WBJEE, GATE, and other tests conducted at the national/international level by different universities/institutes. A few of the colleges also take into account the class 12 scores or results along with the entrance tests for the purpose of admission. Apart from the percentile scores of the tests, the students need to attain cut off percentages as desired by various colleges and universities and they sometimes have to go through general and personal interviews as well. BTech Food Science and Technology Course Eligibility 2024

1. Higher Secondary (12th) passed in Science group with PCB/MPC or Mathematics from any recognized Board/Institution with minimum 50% to 60% marks.

2. JEE Main, UPSEE, etc qualifications and some institution have also their own examinations for offering admissions.

3. In case of the students coming from Arts/Commerce stream, there is a need for bridging courses such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics.

4. Actually in some colleges English as a compulsory subject in Class 12 is preferred.

5. There are some colleges which set age bar criteria for admission lets say upper age limit does not exceed 22-25 years.
