Master of Arts in English is an academic course that one can do after the completion of Bachelor’s degree. The MA (English) course is in advanced English language, critical appreciation and in texts, verse, prose and drama. The MA (English) programme takes two years and entails a wide range of English literature classes across different era, genre and writers. The work also entails writing of research papers, critical analysis, and a thesis or dissertation on any area of English literature of the student’s choice.
For admission into MA (English) courses in Indian universities the accepted entrance exams are UGC-NET, TANCET, university- specific tests such as JNUEE for JNU or DUET for Delhi University or non-English specific exams for general intelligence such as CAT, MAT, ATMA and XAT. Many colleges also have an entrance exam in which they consider performance in the Bachelor’s degree.
