Master of Arts or MA (Punjabi) is a postgraduate academic degree generally of two years’ duration, which is designed for providing deep knowledge of Punjabi language, literature and cultural studies. It is designed to disseminate advanced understanding of Punjabi Language and Literature, theories of criticism to carve out the research ability. In regard to phonetics, grammar, poetry, drama, fiction, literary criticism, etc., students receive extensive and profound knowledge. Electives are options to be able to narrow down fields of interest such as translation studies, mass communication teaching etc.
The main entrance exams accepted for admission in MA Punjabi program are: NET, PET, CET examination held by the respective college or university. For direct admission, several institutes conduct merit based on the marks scored in the qualifying examination which is usually a bachelor’s degree in Punjabi or any other relevant subject with not less than 50% score. Some of the state or central government exams like UGC NET, SET, CSIR NET, GATE etc. are also considered for getting admission in central or state university. Several private and deemed universities set their own entrance tests for admission to MA Punjabi course.
