Ph.D. in Surgery is a 3-5 year doctoral level program in India that deals with the enhanced understanding of surgery as a subject as well as the practice of surgery as a profession. Academic majors acquire the relevant knowledge and abilities to conduct research individually and work as academician and surgeon. It entails advanced surgery, research methods, applied statistics, thesis and dissertation to mention but a few. To be enrolled in Ph.D. Surgery program, the candidates will have to pass national or state level entrance tests such as UGC NET, GATE, ICMR JRF or any other test conducted by university / state/ central government. Other institutes also offer admission based on the scores achieved in the written aptitude test besides an interview. Candidates should have passed M.S. (Surgery) or M.Ch. The candidate has to complete broad five years of house surgeon ship after MBBS or equivalent degree in the concerned surgical specialties like Cardio-thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery etc., to be eligible for a Ph.D. in Surgery program in India. Experience in academic surgical positions is most desirable in institutes that offer this doctoral degree to their candidates.
