The Ph.D in Environmental Engineering is a doctoral level program that can take anywhere between three to four years and provides students with knowledge and skills on how to effectively manage, sustain and preserve the environment. In advanced courses, students learn about the sophisticated concepts such as pollution control techniques, environmental assessment and testing, environmental legislation, environmentalism, sustainability, and resource management. The time required to complete the Ph.D. program is usually four years for students who join the program with a bachelors degree while those with a master’s degree take an average of three years to complete the program.
Some of the major entrance exams accepted for admission into the Ph.D Environmental Engineering programs at universities include: They include Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for measuring verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing skills; Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) that focuses on undergraduate engineering and science level concepts; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) which assesses the English language proficiency in global students. At some institutes, the basis of admission decisions include entrance test scores, academic performance, essays and interviews, statement of purpose and letters of recommendations.
