Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) was set up in 2010 as first and only university of Veterinary Sciences in Bihar. These products are recognized by the Indian council of agricultural research (ICAR) and Veterinary council of India. BASU stands accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC with a cumulative grade point average being 3.11 on a 4 point scale. According to NIRF Rankings 2023, ranked 12 in Veterinary Sciences in India.
The general degree programs offered at the university levels includes the bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in various fields such as Veterinary science, dairy technology, fishery science, animal biotechnology, livestock production management. Some of the major entrance tests are PET-JET-BET and other tests which are aimed at providing admissions in UG & PG classes. It comes to the completion of online application, writing the particular examination, registration and counselling. The exam dates are generally within the period of May and July in most cases. It is however important to note that the rate of seat intake differs by discipline and category.

1. Bachelor's degree programs: 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics and chemistry/Biology/ Agriculture. Age restrictions – 21 years.
2. Master's degree programs: Educational qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized University with not less than 50% marks. No age limit.
3. Doctoral programs: A Master’s degree from a recognized university in the subject of specialization with not less than 55% marks in the aggregate. Must qualify entrance exam. No age limit.
4. Diploma programs: Minimum of 10 + 2 in the respective related field. Age limit - 21 years.
5. Certificate programs: Minimum of 10+2 in any stream pass both in the theory as well as practicals. No age limit.
Placement wise Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) is quite good as they provide good placement facilities for the students. Some of the leading organizations that come for recruitment at BASU campus placement are Amul, Mother Diary, Nestle, Parag Milk Foods, Hatsun Agro. The maximum pay package offered last year was about Rs. 18 lakhs per annum from one of the leading dairy industries. An average salary pay package offered by the company is approximately between Rs 5-8 lakh per year. In terms of placements, the students of various programs including dairy technology, dairy engineering, veterinary sciences get placed through campus interviews and off-campus drives and about 60% -70% students get placed every year.
