Indian Maritime University Chennai ( IMU Chennai) is the one of the premier university of India involved in imparting education, training and research in the stream of marine. IMU Chennai was Established in 2008 and is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India and recognized by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. Accredited to NAAC, The college has been bestowed with grade ‘A’ and a CGPA of 3.31 on the 4 point scale. When it comes to NIRF rankings for 2023, the IMU Chennai is placed at 65 in the list of Universities in India.  

IMU Chennai provides various number of Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate courses in various fields of the maritime sector such as Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, and Port & Shipping Management. The major courses offered include B.Tech Marine Engineering, MBA Port & Shipping Management, M.Tech Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering and PhD in Marine Engineering. It is a common practice that the admission process begins in March every year and there are number of national level tests like IMU-CET conducted by the university and then there are counselling sessions.

Year wise placements in IMU Chennai has been good and placements are attributed to the courses offered in the college which are more industry oriented and the quality training provided. The Indian Maritime University Chennai has a very good placement record which is evident from the placement session held just this year. The maximum salary offered was Rs 25 Lakhs Per Annum and Rs 6.2 lakhs per annum was the average salary offered during the year 2022. Some of the leading recruiters that were participating in the recruitment process were Adani Ports and Fleet Management, Wallem Ship Management, Synergy Marine Group, V Ships and Anglo Eastern Ship Management which offered more than 210 jobs. According to the recruitment record, 92% of the students appeared for placements, 25% of the total students got placed in technical sectors with the highest salary packages.
