Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University (KVBSSA) was started in 2011 to create a center for excellence in Sanskrit and other ancient Indian sciences. It is based in Nalbari, Assam, and is known for its focus on Sanskrit and Vedic education. KVBSSA is UGC recognised and affiliated to the Government of Assam; it has received NAAC accreditation with B++ Grade in 2022. In the NIRF rankings of 2023, it was placed 91 among universities.
KVBSSA conducts several undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs related to Sanskrit, Indology, philosophy, history and culture of ancient India. Some of the well-known courses of this university are BA in Sanskrit, MA in Veda, PhD in Darshana, and diplomas in Jyotish and Yoga. These programmes are offered at the University and the Common Entrance Exam (CEE) is often taken in April/May for admission to the programmes, and the last date for admission is 31st August every year. It involves the choice based on merit in the CEE and personal interviews as well.
KVBSSA has helped many students to secure placements in academic institutions, publishing companies and media organizations among others. Some of the leading organizations which come for the campus recruitment includes Saraswati Online University, Sanskrit Promotion Foundation and Indica Publishers. More than 80% of the postgraduate students have been placed or have chosen to go for higher studies while the highest salary was INR 8000 per annum. Some of the students have appeared in NET/SET/SLET examinations and have been appointed as lecturers/professors in different universities. With the stress on shastra-based education alumni of KVBSSA are also engaged in judiciary, archaeological survey and libraries and museums in various capacities.

Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)
1. For the Bachelor’s degree programme in Sanskrit, Veda, Vyakarana etc., the candidate should have passed 12th standard examination in any stream from a recognized university or board with not less than 50% of marks.
2. For Master’s degree programs in Sanskrit Literature, Vedic Studies, Philosophy, etc. candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
3. For admission to MPhil program in Sanskrit, the candidate must possess Master’s degree in Sanskrit or any allied discipline with at least 55% of the marks from a recognized University.
4. For PhD programs candidates must have Master’s degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the relevant subject from a recognized university and have to pass the university entrance exam.
5. For diploma and certification programs in Sanskrit, Vastu Shastra, meditation etc. it is mandatory to be a 10th pass.
6. It is mandatory for international students to obtain an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to ascertain their qualifying status for numerous programs as per university standards.
