The National Dairy Research centre is located in Karnal, Haryana which is one of the distinguished research and study centre of dairy industry in India. The University provides graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in various dairy science specializations. The main departments of NDRI are Animal Biochemistry Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Technology, Extension Education, and Dairy Economics. The eligibility for most of the departments depends upon the graduation percentages; however, a minimum 50-60% marks in a bachelor’s degree is mandatory. Valid examination entries include ICAR AIEEA for UG courses and ICAR AICE JRF/SRF for masters and doctoral programs. NET/GAT and state level exams are also considered by some departments.
NDRI provides BTech, MTech and PhD in many disciplines like dairy technology, dairy engineering, dairy chemistry, dairy microbiology, dairy business management, and dairy extension. The admission to various courses to be offered in the 2024 batch shall be through Competitive Examinations Including ICAR AIEEA 2023 for B. Tech, ICAR AICE JRF/SRF for M. Tech and PhD, GATE 2023 for M. Tech, and NET 2023 for PhD. The application procedure is usually conducted during the months of February and those considered for admission are given counseling from June to July. The new academic session starts from August. This is due to the fact that the admission process involves scores from a national level examination, record, and interview from the department of each candidate. As per GOI rules and regulation, reservation is applicable for all. On balance NDRI is one of the best institutions for those who seeks to embark on education and career in the dairy sciences field in India.
There are several diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses in dairy science and technology being offered by National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana. For admission seekers in NDRI, the admission portal is available both online and offline.

For offline admission, candidates have to collect the application from the academic branch of the Institute by remitting a demand draft for Rs. 600/- in favour of “ICAR Unit, NDRI” payable at Karnal. Complete particulars as per the prescribed format along with attested true copies of certificates and mark sheets and application fee should be submitted to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), NDRI, Karnal – 132001 only by speed/registered post.
