National Institute of Technology Puducherry is one of the thirty-one National Institutes of Technology that was approved by the Government of India. NIT Puducherry was established in the year 2010 and it comes under the NIT Act 2007 which describes the Institutes of National Importance. Based on the above details, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved NITPY and accredited NAAC with ‘A’ Grade. Currently according to NIRF Rankings 2023, NIT Puducherry has ranked 67th position out of all the engineering colleges in the country.  

NIT Puducherry offers B.Tech. stream in seven disciplines such as Computer Science Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology. The institute operates on a semester basis and has a provision of admitting students on the basis of their JEE Main ranks under the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). The admission process usually takes place during April of every year. For the batch of 2024, JEE Main 2023 will be conducted in the months of January and April and the counselling for the same will begin in the month of June 2023.  

The placement operations of the university are very impressive and well known companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, TCS, L&T, Cognizant and Infosys are some of the major recruiters of the NIT Puducherry. In the 2022-23 placement drive the companies provided more than 200 plus students with their offer letters thereby achieving a placement percentage of 90%. The highest package received was INR 43.33 LPA and the average package was INR 8.11 LPA which was offered to the students. The major fields where people are hired are Information technology, Core Engineering, Finance and Analytics.

NIT Puducherry with regularity over the past few years. During the academic year 2022-23, more than 200 companies were engaged with campus recruitment and have extended as many as 541 offer letters to the students irrespective of the branch. The largest recruiting companies were Microsoft, Amazon, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture, among others. Microsoft offered the highest salary of 43.33 LPA whereas the average salary offered in campus placements was 8.1 LPA. In regards to campus placements, 89% of the total students passed out were either selected through campus interviews or through campus drives.
