National Institute of Technology Puducherry also known as NITPY, is a technical university that provides BTech courses Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These eligibility norms for the given BTech programmes demand students to clear the Boards for Class 12th and secure a minimum of 75% to 80% aggregate marks in PCM subjects or 65% for reserve category students. For BTech course, NITPY offers admissions based on the JEE Main scores. It also runs MTech, MSc, MCA and PhD programmes in fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bio-Technology and many others. The requirement for admission to MTech/MSc is that one must possess a valid GATE score and a BTech/BSc Degree in a related field. The MCA programme entails a Bachelor’s degree in any field with Mathematics in Class 12th and passing NIMCET examination.

NITPY has a plethora of degree programs for students to choose from and its offering includes the following bachelor’s degree programs BTech Computer Science and Engineering is offered under the Computer Science & Engineering department and the minimum eligibility is to have passed class 12 examination with a minimum 75% marks in PCM aggregate for the general category from any recognized board. JEE Mains is also accepted for the admission process of this institution. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has the same eligibility as offered to CSE and has BTech in Electrical Engineering. It has been observed that only two examinations are accepted by them that is JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The Electronics & Communication Engineering department offers BTech Electronics & Communication Engineering and accepts JEE Mains and JEE Advanced for its students. The Mechanical Engineering department also has BTech stream in Mechanical Engineering for which the students qualify through exams such as JEE Mains, JEE Advanced.
The institute provides the BTech programs in branches including Computer Science Engineering Branch, Electrical Branch, Electronics & Communication Branch, Mechanical Branch, Chemical Branch and Civil Branch.
PhD programs in engineering and various science fields are however conducted in NIT Puducherry. The admission requirements provided based on departments for PhD programs. Computer Science & Engineering PhD: Candidates need to have a BTech/ MTech in Computer Science/ Information Technology with a valid GATE score that is above the cut off standard of the department. In Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical engineering and Physics departments, apart from the eligibility criteria of having a master degree in the relevant specializations, the requirement of qualified GATE score also holds true. For Mathematics, Chemistry and English departments only candidates having CSIR-UGC NET JRF/NET, UGC NET JRF or equivalent nationals level examination qualifying is allowed to apply. The standards of examinations that are considered for the admissions in the design department include GATE and CEED.
The institute provides PhD specialisations in numerous subjects in engineering sciences humanities and design which are Civil Engineering, Computer Applications Communication Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Physics Chemistry Mathematics English and Design.
