The university is located at Kakryal, Katra, Jammu and Kashmir and is a state university that goes by the name of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University or SMVDU. SMVDU was set up in the year 1999 and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and NAAC with an ‘A’ grade. According to NIRF ranking, in 2023, SMVDU was placed in the overall band of 101-150 universities in India. These programmes are available at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level across various discipline areas such as engineering and computer science, business, architecture, humanities & social sciences etc.
For bachelor’s and master’s degree, SMVDU provides a number of programs in diverse fields. Some of the programs offered in the different faculties are the Bachelors of Technology, Masters of Business Administration, Bachelors of Architecture, Masters and Science, Masters and Art and Integrated programs. Some of the well-known entrance exams recognised for admission purposes include JEE Main, CAT, GATE etc. As for the admission, it begins in April every year. They use and administer written exams for shortlisting and interviewing the candidates.
