- For the case of undergraduate engineering programs such as BTech, candidates with 12th standard or equivalent subjects of physics, chemistry and mathematics as main streams are eligible. The cut-off marks are situation-dependent and may vary from program to category.

- To get admission into undergraduate courses in arts & science such as BA, BSc, BCom etc. Students must have successfully passed 12th standard or equivalent in any stream. Minimum percentage required varies. 

- In the case of MTech, MBA, MCA and other postgraduate courses, it is common to require candidates to hold a bachelor's degree in the relevant stream with a minimum percentage marks. The applicants must have experience in some programs, such as working at the university.

- The rule for the reserved category candidates is a bit lax because it does not follow usual criteria as per the govt. norms.

- In addition to the eligibility criteria of the institute, students should also be able to qualify for the entrance exams conducted at the national level or at least in the state level like JEE Main, GATE, TANCET or any other across the country.

- Admission is purely based on the candidate's ranking in SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam) or JEE Main which is a national/state level examination.

- Students can apply online or offline by taking a form to fill in their data. They have to prepare documents such as academic grades, name, information, courses’ list and many others.

- After the entrance exam results, SRM discloses its merit lists and enrolls the students in the following round. Elective courses are held giving students the choice to opt for the preferred field depending on rank, seat availability, etc.

- During counseling, students must exhibit their authentic documents while paying admission/counseling fee to confirm their admission and they are granted a place in a program. This is where the counseling process comes to an end.

- Besides the above mentioned documents like 10th and 12th mark sheets for those of SC, ST, OBC  and community certificate a medical test is conducted.
